I had a couple of nice surprises at the two hides I did following the first one.
This Goldfinch came in briefly leaving his friends at the bottom of the property to feed on the
thistle and burdock seeds.

 Garrulus glandarius

Always quite elusive and too shy to appear at the feeder, a jay perches shortly nearby:

 Parus caeruleus

Very much home, these Blues tits are so familiar they come although I am still busy filling the feeders! I find them so precious!

Parus major

This Great tit male has unfortunately an injured leg but as I see him regularly, I believe he'll be OK through winter although in spring no reproduction will be possible.

 Poecile palustris

Marsh tits are especially in abundance this season, I guess it must have to do with my winter restaurant!

Dendrocopos major

The Woodpeckers are back but only one pair so far:

Madame:

Fringilla coelebs

The Common chaffinch is not keen to perch et the feeder, instead it sits in a branch and observes a while. When it feels safe, it dives onto the ground to search for the fallen seeds:

Accipiter nisus

And last but not least, the young Sparrowhawk I saw the other day but did not hope to "shoot" until the colder winter days:

  1. Wow wow wow, such superb photos yet again. We had no gold finches last year and so far none this year. Marsh tits I have never seen but the others appear from time to time. There has been an odd greenfinch this year but not many. Take care and look after yourself. I am happy that you are back taking photos again and sharing them with us. Diane x

  6. Fantastic pictures and such lovely sunny weather. The Bluetits are so beautiful. I think that because they are so common we become complacent about them. If they were from an foreign country we would think they were so exotic.

  7. Bon jour Noushka,

  8. Hi Noushka,
Beautiful, colourful sharp pics of all these birds. Personally I think the gay is an exception, partially hidden behind the branches. A sparrowhawk so nearby is a great experience. A sparrowhawk visited our garden a few years ago and captured a coloured turtle dove.
    Greetings, Kees

  10. I'm delighted to see that your photographic skills are as acute as ever, Noushka. That's a wonderful collection of garden bird images! They're all fabulous but, if I had to pick out a favourite, it would be the last image that would get my vote. I don't think I've ever seen a head-on flight shot of a Sparrowhawk - an amazing achievement.

Lindsay and I enjoyed sharing your hugs, and send them back again with added warm wishes - - - Richard

  21. Dearest Noushka,
What a lovely collection of photos and I'm so happy for you to be able to use your hide again.
I'm way behind with blog reading as we lived through 8 emotional days. Dad had 3 heart attacks but today he got home with my youngest sister. He did not need surgery though, only medication.
Can you believe that Thursday after 7 full days I finally could make a phone call? My toxic relatives had not hooked up Dad's TV, Radio and Phone... He did without for so long and that way my Australian relatives and both of us got isolated as none could make a phone call, neither those living long distance in The Netherlands.
    Animals don't show such tricks...
    Hugs,
    Markette

  22. Hi Noushka! I realized with horror today that I had not visited your blog in a little while! I am sorry my friend. I've been chasing my tail. but what a treat to return and see all the little birds that I have grown to know and love on your blog: the blue, great, and marsh tits, the little chaffinch with its gorgeous soft colors, and the young sparrow hawk. Our goldfinches are almost completely yellow, and our jays are full of blue. I am happy to see you are back in your kids capturing and sharing these lovely birds. Now I'm going to go right back and see all the posts I've missed recently! Big hugs to you!!!!

  23. A Sardinian warbler ~ a new bird to me; but it certainly has memorable red-lined eyes. I had to laugh at the fourth one down which looks like I've been feeling this hectic November! LOL!

More marsh and blue tits in your garden! I always love les petits oiseaux. And the pretty little troglodyte whose name always seems a misnomer, because here troglodyte means an really ugly woman. Your wren is one of my favorite birds too!

We have black-headed night herons too. I thought they were the weirdest herons when I first found them, because they had such scrunched necks. I had to see them a number of times before I realized they could stretch out their necks and resemble other herons I had seen. Duh! I love how you captured them bathing with water flying everywhere.

Almost every post you capture a bird photo that makes me gasp, and the fourth picture down of your common tern bathing did it ~ what a phenomenal and lively photo!

I am so happy to see you posting! I know it must take a lot just to make yourself do it. But you have a gift that makes all these beautiful birds come alive, and the world needs your magnificent photos.

Take care my dear friend! My apologies for being absent, It has been quite a month for me, and I've let all kinds of balls drop. Sending you big hugs!

  27. Bonjour Noushka,
    Michel
