Barge à queue noire islandaise

Limosa limosa islandica
Scolopacidae - Charadriiformes

Le Teich, début avril 2017
Nikon D500 + 800mm

Icelandic Black-tailed godwit
Slightly smaller than Limosa l. limosa, this sub-species has longer wings, a shorter beak and the orange colour of its plumage is more intense and spreads more.If it spends winter in Western Europe, it nests mainly in Iceland, but sporadically in England, in Ireland and on the Faroe, Shetland and Lofoten Islands.

  2. We see Godwits infrequently here and almost never in breeding plumage. How lucky you are, Noushka. Superb pictures. Big hugs from Miriam and me.

If you had of visited me blog to day you would have seen more than flowers :-) An Aesculapian snake visited us today, only the second time I have managed a photo of them in the garden.

  5. Hi Noushka. Unlike John, I don't think that I have ever seen this bird in UK, although one I once saw on the Hampshire coast might have been of this race - it certainly had a very deep colouration. Thank you for bringing the differences to my attention, and for your super images.

With my very best wishes - - Richard

  11. Hi Noushka,
Beautiful pictures of this species of godwits. I have seen the common species already quite a few times this year, but didn't get the chance so far to make acceptable pictures. Yours are great as usual.
    Greetings, Kees
