Quelle belle montagne!

What beautiful mountains these Pyrenees... Some say that if their underground mass was above ground, they would be higher than the Himalayas... I won't check!!
Last stretch for the rut season thus I attempt an escapade in the heights at an altitude of 1800 to 2000 m, in a breathtaking decor of forests and open spaces carpeted with a mixture of heather and reddening wild blueberries.

On arrival, here and there in the far distance I can hear few males bellowing. I took with me the 16/80 mm lens for landscapes and the 800 mm  for eventual stags. Fortunately, the clouds are dancing around, always a must in such landscapes and of course a few cows were still in pasture.

Sans la vache!
Without the cow!

Once there, I sit on the ground against the only mini fir tree in the colourful blueberry moor. I have the wind against and the distance seems perfect if animals come out of the forest edged. I have time to take more landscape pics as the clouds constantly change it, playing with light in a breathtaking ballet. My spirit heightens with a feeling of happiness and oneness with this fabulous nature.

Incoming clouds take the area over, obstructing my view of the forest and I fear the worst; in the mountains, the weather can change in minutes and often settles for good in the evening.

It is not late only17h45, my side of the mountain does not get the sun light anymore, when a young brocket emerges from the fir trees, about 80 m from me; luckily, the clouds have receded.

He is on alert and the small movement I make to adjust signals my presence. Never good: if a herd animal seems upset the others won't come out or at least not where intended.

He doubles back into the forest but still lower, a beautiful young doe walks out into the blueberry bushes. Bellowing is heard in the far, so no large stag will come out and I must satisfy myself with these few pics.

  2. Wow what stunning views and I love the shots of the deer. I am sure the music videos would be great, but I have to take your word for it until one day when we get a decent WiFi speed!!!!! Loving this slightly warmer temperature :-)))) Gentle hugs Diane

  3. Hi Noushka,
and wow what a climb you had to get these wonderful landscape images, it would have been such a shame to have gone all that way for it to have been spoilt by the clouds rolling in. Super varied post. Certainly a considerable amount of rock in the Pyrenees. Have a good week and well done. All the best, john

  4. Coucou Noushka,

  6. Dearest Noushka,
    Indeed: 'Quelle belle montagne!'
When I started to read here I did envy you... For years both of us have worked in the mountains at about this altitude. But not free to roam in nature, going up for the mushroom business. We always have enjoyed it and love the walking, never mind the high altitude.
It feels like being half on earth and half in heaven, at times even disappearing into the clouds.
How hard it is to tricks those beautiful Red deer into not knowing you are there...
At least you got something and very precious photos of your two subjects.
    Sending you hugs,
    Mariette

  8. Your wildlife images are always wonderful, Noushka, but I think that your landscape photography is amazing - especially when you have such magnificent surroundings as you found here! Well worth all the effort getting there. I hope that you managed to descend before darkness fully set in!.

With my very best wishes - - - Richard
