Dendrocygna eytoni

Ce canard siffleur, appartenant au genre Dendrocygna, est très caractéristique avec ses longues plumes crème bordées de noir qui remontent sur ses ailes. Bien que tête et cou ne soit pas bien colorés, je le trouve élégant et j'ai beaucoup de plaisir à le revoir lors de nos séjours en Australie. Très grégaire, il décore agréablement les points d'eau, marais et lagunes au nord du pays. Il niche dans les hautes herbes près de l'eau; curieusement, il ne pacage pas les plantes sous la surface de l'eau mais se nourrit d'herbes sur la terre ferme.

It belongs to the Dendrocygna gender. Its long yellow wing feathers, finally lined with black, are characteristic and elegant. Gregarious, it flocks readily around water pans. It nests close to the water's edge and feeds off grass on land and not under the water surface as so many other ducks.
