Comment les différencier des adultes? Par les pattes noirâtres et la pointe blanche du bec.
Et les mâles des femelles? Par le bas du bec... noir chez le mâle, partiellement orange chez la femelle.
Exemple, ci-dessous un jeune mâle:

And males from females? By the lower beak... black with the male, partially orange by the hen.

I'm very jealous, Noushka, because I haven't found a Kingfisher to photograph at a reasonable distance for many years. I really must try and do something about that, spurred on by your wonderful images!

Hi Noushka, you lucky girl, Kingfisher are my bogey bird and I have never managed a reasonable image ever. I can manage a beautiful blue blur. Richard and myself have spent many an afternoon at a local Reservoir where we see Kingfishers but they have always landed in the distance. All the best, John

SupprimerAs I said to Richard on his blog, once you've spotted one or more birds around a dam, planting a nice perch on the edge of the water should do it but if trees and bushes are too close, they will find other places to perch... And if they see you they will remain in the distance, so a basic hide with branches should help. Not that easy, I know!

The kingfishers have such beautiful plumage. I appreciated the information on how to differentiate between males and females and juveniles and adults. I was also interested to read that you sometimes plant a perch near where you are hiding, Noushka.
