Ceryle rudis
Ici je suis au somptueux jardin botanique d'Entebbe qui héberge des arbres extraordinaires et une faune aviaire unique et particulièrement variée.
Ce n'est pas la première fois que je présente ces oiseaux qui sont très répandus en Afrique, mais j'ai pu
les approcher à pied tranquillement et non plus d'un véhicule ou d'un
canoé. Les mâles ont une large bande noire sur le poitrail alors que chez la femelle elle est interrompue au milieu. Ils font du sur-place pour repérer les poissons avant de plonger. Quand ils volent en ligne droite, ils peuvent atteindre presque 50 km/h!

This kingfisher can reach a speed close to 50 km/h!

What a fabulous kingfisher that is, Carine! Your photographic ducumentation is wonderful. Did that last one ever succeed in swallowing the fish or did it have to take it bit by bit?
