Numenius arquata
Charadriiformes - Scolopacidae

Eurasian curlew
A large group of these magnificent birds with a long curved beak comes to feed in the corn fields of the Magnoac area in the south of France, a beautiful agricultural region rich with many bird species; these curlews deserve a post of their own.
It is the largest wader of its kind, the wingspan can reach 1 m. The species is migratory in the largest part of its area and winters in Africa and Southern Europe; it is extremely gregarious out of the reproductive period.
A part from feeding on small fish, invertebrates and molluscs when breeding, the rest of the year they also eat bays and seeds, amphibians, lizards, young birds and small rodents.
