Perdrix rouge

Alectoris rufa
Catalogne

A family of Red-legged partridges appear at a dam. This bird is found in open agricultural areas. Non migratory and terrestrial, they congregate after the breeding season. As a game bird it has been hunted severely and their numbers are now dwindling seriously. They appreciate grass and cereal seeds but also arthropods and ants.

  3. Here, in the UK, Red-legged Partridge are colloquially known as 'French Partridge' and are bred in their thousands to suffer and die at the hands of the barbaric shooting fraternity. However, they are always a pleasure to see - even when they've just been released and block the road in their hundreds! I find myself wishing them the best of luck, but they're not the quickest-witted of birds!

Take good care, Carine, and have a great weekend - - - - Richard

  5. So many birds and animals are becoming endangered in France, hunting has a lot to answer for!! Beautiful photos though and I am glad you found some birds to share with us all.
I see you are using both christian names, does the original problem not exist anymore?
Enjoy your weekend, warm hugs Diane

These are such a beautiful bird that are bred in large numbers for shooting, hopefully many get away and we see them in reasonable numbers.
    All the best, John
