Circaetus pectoralis
Black-chested snake eagleFound widely in semi arid areas of southern Africa, this bird of prey is easily recognisable with its perfectly white underparts and dark brow bib, head and back. Wings and tail are barred. It feeds mostly on snakes, but won't neglect lizards, small mammals and frogs.

All the best, John
Superbe !
I see that you are off on a new adventure for a couple of weeks. I wish you safe travels and happy hunting for beautiful birds. I'm sorry that I have been absent. I can't seem to get consistent with blogging ever since I lost internet access for a few days in Honolulu. I think of you almost every time I see a bird or hear beautiful birdsong. I hope you are well. Take care!
RépondreSupprimerMagnificent photos and a bird that we did not see while in RSA last year. A really beautiful bird and of course as I said, magnificent photos. The sun has actually come out today :-))) Hugs Diane
RépondreSupprimerWhoa! I think I have a new favorite bird! That eagle is magnificent!
RépondreSupprimerWith a wonderful name like "Black-chested Snake Eagle", it would just HAVE to be a terrific bird. And, of course, I remain jealous of your technically and artistically fabulous photographs.
Safe journeys!
Great shots, Noushka! Fabulous plumage too. However, the only thing that makes me not call the bird 'magnificent' is that flat top to the head - it just says 'comical' to me!
RépondreSupprimerHave a great time and take good care - - - Richard
