On trouve deux espèces de burhinidés en Australie, voici l'une d'elles.
Ce limicole terrestre peuple notamment les forêts claires; bien qu'il soit muni de très grandes ailes, il marche volontiers et s'aplatit en long sur le sol en cas d'apparition d'un prédateur. Il se nourrit de toutes sortes d'insectes, de lézards et de batraciens et se reproduit de juin à décembre dans le Queensland.
Cet individu a été photographié sur l'île de Brampton au large de Mackay; pas trop farouche, sa distance de sécurité était de 7/8 mètres. On notera sa pupille plus importante que chez l'Oedicnème criard.

If it is reasonably common in the north of Australia, it has become rare in the less fertile south. Although it has large wings, it walks readily and lays flat on the ground if a predator shows up. It feeds on all sorts of insects, lizards and batrachian and breeds from june to december in Queensland. I photographed this individual on Brampton island offshore Mackay; it was not very shy, its security distance was about 8 meter.
