De loin et à première vue il pourrait ressembler à la Nette rousse, mais son bec gris à pointe noire le différencie immédiatement.
c'est un canard plongeur très commun, grégaire, que l'on peut rencontrer en période de migration par centaines voir plus; il niche principalement au nord de l'Europe mais quelques centaines restent sur nos côtes.
On le trouve souvent en compagnie du Fuligule morillon avec lequel il s'hybride à l'occasion.
The Common pochard
At first sight it can look like the Red-crested pochard, but its grey beak with a black tip shows the immediate difference.
It is a very common duck, a gregarious diver that can be see at migration periods by the hundreds; it nests mainly in the North of Europe but smaller colonies stay along our shores. They often mix with Tufted ducks with which they hybridize occasionally.
