Les femelles comme ici, ont la tête barrée gris et marron tandis que les mâles ont la tête entièrement brune. L'espèce se porte se porte bien d'autant que le développement de l'agriculture a favorisé un nombre croissant de mares et de lacs.
Australian wood duck or Maned duck
This sociable dabbling duck is quite common in Australia around water dams. Strangely it feeds like geese on grasses and clover and eventually insects. It nest in tree hollows forcing the ducklings to jump out when the time comes. Females, such as those here below, have a grey and brown bared head whereas males have it all brown. The species is wide spread since many dams were artificially created for agriculture purposes.
