Sur les premières photos, le rapace est en chasse. Il se positionne la plupart du temps dos au soleil pour mieux visualiser sa proie. Dans le même temps, il surveille son territoire et chasse énergiquement tout intrus, particulièrement quand la paire est formée (ou reformée) et qu'elle se prépare à nicher.

On the first pictures, the bird is hunting. Most of the time it positions itself back to the sun to see its prey better. At the same time, it surveys its territory for intruders such as other birds of prey and drives them out vigorously, especially when the pair is formed and ready to breed.

Plus tard dans la journée, cet Elanion mange quelque chose de plus gros qu'un mulot mais impossible de déterminer quoi.
Par contre il présente les yeux rouges de l'espèce ibérique d’origine africaine alors que la plupart des autres ici ont les yeux jaunes. Pas grand chose n'existe encore à ce sujet, mais je pense que nous avons également dans le sud-oust l'espèce qui nous vient d'Asie. Je fais des recherches!...
Later in the day, I find this individual - below - eating someting obviously larger than a mouse but it was impossible to determine what.
More important, it has red eyes and since they can't be immatures, I guess we might have both species in my area of southern France: the one from the Iberian peninsula and the one from Asia, but I am researching the matter deeper before making up my mind!
