Grande sauterelle verte, un mâle d'une couleur inhabituelle.
Cette espèce se reconnaît à ses très longues et fines antennes et aux longues ailes qui dépassent très largement le bout de l'abdomen.

Le nom scientifique Sarcophaga vient du grec : sarcos: chair et phagein: dévorer.
Elle est redoutée pour sa capacité à véhiculer des bactéries, champignons ou virus pathogènes prélevés sur des cadavres: dans la nature, elle pond sur les animaux morts dont ses asticots se nourrissent; peu ragoûtant mais oh combien indispensable pour recycler le mort en vivant! ;-)
