Helophilus pendulus
Ce Syrphe magnifique est reconnaissable par sa face dorsale thoracique noire rayée verticalement de quatre bandes jaunes. Il peut facilement être confondu avec H. hybridus.
Il mesure entre 1 et 2 cm, ses pattes sont orangées à extrémités noires. Si la larve se nourrit de détritus dans l'eau ou la vase, l'adulte se nourrit de pollen et de nectar.
A beautiful Hoverfly: Its scientific name means "dangling swamp-lover". Like other members of the genus Helophilus it has black and yellow longitudinal stripes on the upper surface of its thorax. The abdomen is patterned with yellow, black and grey. It has a black central face-stripe. It has a wing-length of 8.5 - 11.25 mm. This species visits flowers and also commonly rests on leaves. It often emits a buzzing sound when resting. It is a notable wanderer and can be found well away from water. The larvae live in water and feed on detritus.
