Harde de cerfs dans les Pyrénées

 Cervus elaphus
Cervidae - Artiodactyla

Yesterday evening I went back to the Pyrenees to try and get closer to the Red deer herd I had seen on September the 6th and my wait was decently rewarded. I must say that when I arrived close to the field, I saw the farmer's trailer packed with hay stacks exactly where I needed to hide, about 30 meters from where the animals should appear, in the right light and especially with a favourable wind. I slid below the trailer, a net above me and my camera and stopped breathing! I caught a glimpse of a fox but it never came close enough for a photo.

The large brocket follows the matriarch he just had a bath in the brook above. A pity it is not accessible for pictures.

The large male arrives last, the tip of the his antlers slightly warn out: I could hear his thumps against a tree trunk just before he appeared: rutting time is getting close!

  1. Hi Noushka, some superb images of the Red Deer, you most certainly get around with so many subjects. You were lucky the farmer had been good enough to leave the trailer for you to act as your hide. The 200 - 500 lens is really something. Regards John

  2. Very nice. I am pleased the farmer's trailer turned out to be useful. I will never walk past one again without wondering if there is someone hiding underneath with a camera!

  3. Hi Noushka,
You find yourself a perfect spot to observe the deer, despite of the activities of the farmer. The pics are great, colours and sharpness as good as always. It must have been fantastic to see the deer, not being disturbed by other spectators as happens almost everytime in the Netherlands.
    Greetings, Kees

  5. Coucou Noushka,

  6. Looks like you found the perfect spot to hide. A swim in the brook I would think was a good idea to chase the flies away, the first photo looks like there were many flies a round. Take care hugs Diane
